Who are the early 2025 NBA offseason winners and losers?
NBA free agency began on June 30th, nearly two weeks ago. A lot has happened during that initial time span when reflecting on the begining of the NBA offseason. Like with many offseasons, there are winners and losers when analyizing each teams actions. For starters, the Eastern Conference is set to be wide open for the 2025-2026 NBA season. Injuries to star players have changed the outlook of the Eastern Conference. Teams like the New York Knicks, Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks could be deemed winners of the early offseason. The Knicks improved their low scoring bench by signing veterans Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele. The Magic made a blockbuster trade prior to free agency, aquiring 3 point shooter Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies. The Atlanta Hawks traded for former All Star Kristaps Porzingus and signed free agents Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard. Teams like the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers could be considered losers of the offseason. All three teams got worse when compared to the contenders of thr conference. The Celtics traded majority of their campionship core following Jayson Tatum’s injury. The Bucks stretched and waived Damian Lillard following his season ending injury and replaced him with Pacers center Myles Turner. The Pacers losing Turner for nothing following a trip to the NBA Finals is a front office embarassment. The Western Conference winners and losers are limited compared to the Eastern Conference. The Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets are the only major winnners of the offseason. The Rockets blockbuster trade for 15x All Star Kevin Durant will be a difference maker. The Rockets also retained their rotational core and added free agents Dorian Finnney Smith and Clint Capella. The Denver Nuggets also changed up their supportive cast by aquiring shooter Cam Johnson and center Jonas Valanciunas via trades. The Nuggets also brough back champion Bruce Brown in free agency, along with free agent Tim Hardaway Jr. The Golden State Warriors are the only loser in the Western Conference. Their lack of major moves this offseason is a let down when analayzing the limited championship window left for Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green. So whats next for the winners and losers? Will there be any major moves happening soon? While free agency is nearly 2 weeks old, there is still plenty to happen in the next 3 months before Opening Night.
